This programme can be taken from anywhere in New Zealand with our distance delivery which participants say is more personal than much in-person delivery.

Who for
This programme is primarily for school laboratory professionals who are responsible for care of microscopes. It is also for others who need to care for similar microscopes.

NZ domestic: $0 (Would be $9540, but provided without fees due to generous funding by the New Zealand Government through the Tertiary Education Commission.)

International: $2200

We lend

We lend the following to participants without any extra charge.  We pay the courier charges when the items are sent to the participant, and when the participant returns the items.

We will lend a wide range of supplies and equipment for microscope care. (We will also provide some expendable materials for microscope care).  A more detailed list will be included here later.

If needed, we can lend a laptop.

Encouraging others to treat microscopes properly

Knowing your limits for electrical work
Electrical trouble-shooting and improvement
Determining a microscope’s fitness for purpose (and finding a purpose for which a microscope is fit)

Learning outcome(s)

People successfully completing this programme will be able to...

...select the appropriate affordable optical compound microscope for a specific purpose.

...provide maintenance and repairs for affordable optical compound microscopes in a manner appropriate to their use and value.

Entry requirements
  • sufficient access to microscopes for practical work,
  • NCEA Level 2 (or equivalent), and
  • demonstration of understanding of the micro-credential and general suitability for the study through Real World Education's pre-entry process.
Intakes

There are no spaces left in this programme for 2024.  If you wish to take this programme, please sign up to find out when 2025 intakes are scheduled by clicking here.  Since this programme is likely to fill quickly for 2025, it will be important to apply promptly once the intakes are scheduled.

School laboratory professionals should consider the popular Solution Calculations and Preparation for Schools (Micro-credential) Programme and the General Laboratory Safety (Micro-credential) Programme which still have spaces for participants in 2024.
